Celebrating the Spirit of Growth on Children’s Day

As we celebrate Children’s Day, it’s a time to reflect on the aspirations of our young ones. Every child is unique, with dreams of their own, and while they cherish the love and guidance of their parents, they also yearn for the freedom to explore, learn, and grow independently. This poem, “To Mom and Dad,” is a gentle reminder that while nurturing and imparting values are essential, so is allowing space for children to carve their own paths. It is a heartfelt message from children to their parents, expressing the delicate balance between seeking support and striving for self-reliance.

To Mom and Dad

Yes, I want to grow,

But not just under your shadow.

No doubt you are my hero,

But I, too, am not a zero.

Impart me values and knowledge,

Things I miss in school and college.

But let me thrive in the harsh sunshine,

Building skills suited for my own time.

Yes, I need your love and support,

And checks that help me hold my fort.

Watch that I don’t stray away,

Guide me back on track every day.

I am not a bush under a banyan tree,

Nor a climber growing at reckless speed.

Let me find my own path to grow,

To swell your chest with pride to show.
